The Situation

You notice a suspicious transaction on your account statement. You feel a moment of panic and think, “Who had unauthorized access to my account? Am I the victim of a scam!?

Even small amounts of money charged to your account without authorization can cause huge problems: financial stress, time spent fixing the issue, worry about the security of your accounts and identity theft.

You call your payment company, which you thought was a trusted partner in your personal finances, and you explain the situation. The representative pretends to be interested in helping, and maybe even issues a temporary refund, but in the end…

Your payment company refuses to reimburse you.

What can you do next?

Find an advocate who understands payment company obligations and will pursue the restitution you deserve.

That’s where Cater Law Firm comes in.

How it Works

You send the Cater Law Firm the details of your claim. An attorney reviews it carefully and determines whether the Cater Law Firm can be of assistance. Even small claims can be worth thousands of dollars in compensation to you.

Here are the details you will need to provide:

  • The payment company name.
  • The date(s) of the unauthorized transactions on your account.
  • The date on which you noticed the unauthorized transaction(s).
  • A short description of any attempts you made to resolve the issue with the merchant who charged your account without authorization.
  • A short description of the interaction(s) you’ve had with your payment company regarding the unauthorized charge.
  • A short description of how this experience has affected you.

Final Steps

After evaluating your claim and agreeing to take you on as a client, the Cater Law Firm will immediately start working on your behalf with the goal of a prompt resolution, either through settlement or arbitration.

The process starts with a letter to your payment company demanding repayment for the unauthorized charge —sometimes a letter from a lawyer is enough to get results.

If the payment company offers less than what the Cater Law Firm believes to be an adequate offer within 30 days, the next step is to demand that the case be heard before an independent arbitrator*.

* Arbitration demand: Your contract with your payment company requires you go to a special forum to resolve any disputes with the company. You will not be responsible for any related fees. The arbitration process costs the payment company a lot of money, generally more than the disputed amount of the transactions. Luckily, the process only involves document submissions and no testimony. It is typically resolved within 5 months of filing.
